My Research

My area of research is about the implementation of new technologies in organizational contexts. I have worked specifically with innovation processes inside companies and how business process performance can be improved through the adoption and use of new technologies in general and mobile technologies in particular. This includes the management of new technology, development of technology-based services and related business processes. I have been able to implement many of the insights developed within academia in my later career as consultant.

Q&A about my research

Why this research?

A less studied and more problematic aspect of the development of the Internet and the mobile phone over the last decades concerns how organizations can adopt and deploy these technologies to create business value.

What about your dissertation?

My dissertation analyses companies devoted to the implementation of wireless information systems, that were confronted with several challenges, and investigates how these challenges were met by means of different capability development activities.

Are these technology success stories?

Yes, the development and spread of these technologies has been rapid, but the predominantly technology-driven development has over time resulted in substantial and sometimes unforeseen changes in user behavior.

What does the dissertation show?

The study suggests that the firms that give the best performance are not necessarily those that implement different breeds of technology, but rather those that are able to learn from the challenges they are confronted with.

Why did you want to study this?

Due to my background as engineer, I focused my research on the telecom area. My research position at the Stockholm School of Economics influenced my decision to more specifically study the implementation of mobile information systems in organizations.

Any other research projects?

I have been involved in other related projects such as Novel Access Provision of wireless services, the evaluation of WiFi implementation at the Stockholm School of Economics or the analysis of the Swedish 3G-license allocation process for the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
